There’s a passage I got memorized. It comes from Ezekiel 25:17. The path of the righteous is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy My brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay My vengeance upon you.
Recognize that opening monologue? Well, if you guessed Samuel L. Jackson’s apartment scene from ‘Pulp Fiction,’ then, check out the brains on you! If not, no matter here’s what you missed in the news yesterday.
Well, That Escalated At The Proper Pace
The news surrounding the disappearance and alleged murder of Saudi journalist, Jamal Khashoggi continues to get complicated, despite the fact that more information has been released. In a statement to the press, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Tuesday that the Trump administration is revoking visas of Saudi officials who have any relation to the death of Khashoggi. Pompeo did not specify how many visas the U.S. planned on revoking.
“We’re making very clear that the United States does not tolerate this ruthless action to silence Mr. Khashoggi, a journalist, through violence.”
–Mike Pompeo U.S. Secretary of State
For those of you just tuning in to the Khashoggi story, I’ll briefly summarize for you. Khashoggi was a columnist for The Washington Post and was in Turkey where he and his fiancee planned on filing the necessary paperwork to make their marriage official. The two lovers traveled to the Saudi Arabian Consulate in Istanbul, Turkey. Khashoggi went inside to obtain the paperwork and never returned. Reports from Turkish officials and the Saudis have corroborated that the journalist was senselessly murdered for reasons unknown to the public.
Did Someone Say “Hanging Chad?” Not Again…
The Gubernatorial race in Georgia is heating up between Democrat Stacy Abrams and Republican Brian Kemp. In a typical voting process, you have the freedom to select from a list of candidates and submit your vote. Simple enough, one would think. Well, on Tuesday, The Georgia NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) filed several complaints with state election officials say that many of the state’s voting machine “showed votes cast for Abrams registering for her opponent.
“We’ve experienced this before. They ended up taking these old dilapidated machines out of service. The ones giving the problems. They should have been replaced about 10 years ago”
–Phyllis Blake, president of Georgia NAACP
The complaints are warranted, given the possible historic outcome of this election. If Abrams wins, she will be the first African-American woman governor in the United States. Blake and the NAACP are not the only residents of Georgia angered with the state’s election system. Many believe the state is trying to suppress the votes of black voters which, if true, would be a travesty of civil rights and voting rights.
What A Bad Apple!
Every time a new Apple (AAPL) product is released, the world loses their collective freaking minds. The iTouch this, the iWatch that, it’s invasive, really. All of this watching and touching, I can’t stand it. Puns aside, the new iPhone XS and XS Max were recently released and consumers are not happy. The screen is larger, the resolution is crystal clear per usual, but when you try to use the front-facing camera, something peculiar happens.
One of the biggest concerns has been called “BeautyGate,” an issue where the front camera appears to smooth out a person’s skin by picking a sharper base frame for Smart HDR. Apple wants their products to be so pristine and smooth that their technology imposes those design aesthetics on its users.
Apple (AAPL) has recognized the issue of this software malfunction and plans on releasing an update to remedy the BeautyGate bug.
