Let Me Stand Next To Your Fire
While catchy, residents of Southern California are doing the exact opposite as wildfires have threatened over 75,000 homes as of Friday. According to reports, at least 20 homes have been destroyed, and mandatory evacuations are in effect for residents living in Ventura County and the Malibu Area of Los Angeles County.
“We now have a number of structures that were lost during the firefight overnight. Fortunately, there have not been any civilian fatalities as a result of lack of evacuations.”
–Mark Lorenzen, Ventura County Fire Chief
The Woolsey fire, as its comes to be known, has torched over 20,000 acres of land and property. California’s new Governor Gavin Newsom officially declared a state of emergency on Friday. This announcement comes after Newsom’s similar decision for residents of Northern Calfornia currently avoiding the Camp fire, which has led to the evacuation of roughly 52,000 people, according to CNBC.
Talk About Customer Service
A flight operated by Philippine Airlines was en route to the Philippines and a mother with child ran out of formula to feed her baby. Naturally, the mother panicked because no one likes a crying baby on a plane, let alone the irresponsible owner of that baby. The sound of the baby crying alerted flight attendant Patrisha Organo and, rather than simply ask if everything was okay or if the mother needed anything, the flight attendant proceeded to offer her own breast milk for the baby.
“I thought to myself, there’s only one thing I could offer and that’s my own milk. And so I offered. I saw the relief on her mother’s eyes. I continued to feed the baby until she fell asleep, I escorted her back to her seat and just before I left, the mother sincerely thanked me.”
–Patrisha Organo, Flight Attendant, Philippine Airlines
Although Organo’s actions were valiant and allowed the baby to have a nutritious dinner, the US Food and Drug Administration would like me to inform you that feeding a baby milk from a woman other than the baby’s mother places the baby at risk of a number of diseases.
Secrets Don’t Make Apps, They Make The Best Apps
Facebook (FB), perhaps the last company you would think to be responsible for anything secretive and discreet, released an app on Friday called Lasso that lets users shoot and edit short 15-second videos. The app’s debut is intended to compete with TikTok, the video app that recently joined forces with musical.ly. If you told me Facebook (FB) is desperate to win over the hearts and minds of teenagers, I wouldn’t hold it against you.
According to a recent survey, 50% of teens say they still use Facebook (FB), compared to in 2014, when 71% used the platform.
