It was the best of times, was the worst of times. A world wrought with danger, despair at every corner, and out of the shadows a hero emerged. Not the hero we deserved, but the hero we needed. His name; “Fro-yo Ma.” His mission, to rid the world of evil by serving ice-cold justice in the form of frozen yogurt. While his enemies would often ridicule him for his abilities, no hero on Earth, or even in the universe, could bring smiles to children while simultaneously fighting crime. No, he couldn’t run faster than a speeding bullet, nor could he leap across tall buildings in a single bound. But Fro-yo Ma possessed a power that no one dare try to take away from him; his frozen yogurt was low-fat and damn tasty.

Think Fro-yo would make it in the Avengers? Well, here’s what you missed in the news yesterday.

You Can Re-Count On Me

Florida just finished part one of an epic tale in which suspicious activity in an election required the entire state to recount their ballots from the US Midterm elections. As for the specific elections up for reconsideration, Florida’s vacant Senate seat, as well as the current opening for Florida’s governor, will be figured out, once and for all, after all, ballots have been accounted for.

In regards to the Florida gubernatorial race between Ron DeSantis and former Mayor of Tallahassee Andrew Gillum, DeSantis was declared victorious by a margin of 0.41 percent, according to recent reports, though a manual recount has yet to take place. Mr. Gillum believes that he still has a shot at the title and all ballots — including those which were rejected because of mismatched signatures— should be accounted for before deciding who wins.

“A vote denied is justice denied — the State of Florida must count every legally cast vote. As today’s unofficial reports and recent court proceedings make clear, there are tens of thousands of votes that have yet to be counted. We plan to do all we can to ensure that every voice is heard in this process.”

Andrew Gillum, Former Mayor of Tallahassee, Florida

Oh, Canada!

It could be the fire or the governing style of the Trump administration, but whatever the reason is, thousands of Americans want out of this country and the number-one location on their relocation list is Canada. According to statistics from Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada, 2,550 Americans sought asylum in Canada and went through the application process to make their moves official. The data indicates that the US supplied the third-largest number of asylum-seekers top Canada, right behind Haiti (7,785) and Nigeria (6,0005).

As for the reasoning behind Americans attempting a mass migration, we need to first take a look at the demographics of the people trying to leave the country. The report released from the IRCC states that 80% – 85% of the US Asylum-seekers are from/or have some direct relation to Haiti. CNN reports that many Haitians are fleeing to Canada in response to President Trump’s plan to end the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) program. Haitians were granted TPS during the first round of the Obama administration as a humanitarian response by the US for victims of the earthquake in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti.
