I’ve just witnessed an interesting social predicament and I’d like, if you have time, to tell you what just occurred. There I was, working on various projects in a coffee shop, sipping on a cup of coffee, as I often do, when a man walked into the shop. He waited in line, ordered a drink, and found a place to sit while the baristas worked on his order. As he was waiting for his order to be completed, his phone began to ring, and naturally, as any person would, he answered the phone. What followed this action is when shock and awe overtook my entire being. The man put the call on speakerphone and began yelling at the person on the other end of the phone call. I’m not talking about speaking louder than typically appropriate for coffee shop standards, this person was actually yelling. While I’m still shocked, I fear I will never know what possessed this man to act as such.

Either way, here’s what you missed in the news yesterday.

Be Back in 5 Minutes

As it currently stands, no one has even the foggiest clue as to when the partial shutdown of the federal government will end. Though talks to reopen the government took place on Wednesday night, it seems like nothing will remarkable will occur until President Donald Trump gets his funding request approved to build a border wall along the US-Mexico border. According to CNN, government funding negotiations have largely taken place at the staff level over the course of this week, but no common ground has been found.

“I can tell you, if (Democrats) believe this President is going to yield on this particular issue, they’re misreading him, misreading the American people. I see no evidence that would suggest he would even come close to $1.3 billion. I don’t see that as a reasonable counteroffer.”

Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC)

Justice Is Served

Remember when an individual who decided that his message was more important to carry out than preserving the lives of hundreds of participants at the Boston Marathon. Well, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the man responsible for the Boston Bombing had his day in court on Thursday, during at which time he asked an appellate court to overturn his conviction and death penalty sentence for a terrorist attack that killed three people and wounded over 26, according to Reuters.

“The pre-trial publicity was damning: the more a prospective juror had seen, the more likely she was to believe that Tsarnaev was guilty and deserved the death penalty.”

Statement from Tsarnaev’s lawyers

I think its interesting that someone who committed a massive terrorist attack feels entitled to appeal his case. What if he was turned loose by the courts? Would he suddenly turn the other cheek and make up for the lives he took and the people he injured?
